This morning I was reading about when Judas betrayed Jesus and all it took were a few silver coins. We are always challenged as to whether or not we would betray Jesus, our faith, and almost always, we all say never! But it may not be in the obvious way but the subtle ways of the enemy that we are betraying Him … e.g. someone asks us if we’re doing anything and if not, maybe catch up or just hang out – do we tell them the truth that we actually just want a night at home or do we come up with a story that we’re so sorry but we have already got plans and catching up with someone else … God may have orchestrated your availability – will you let Him use you or go on your own selfish way?
Or maybe, you’ve been given extra finances through a gift, tax etc and God wants you to bless someone else (who is in your mind, totally blessed enough as it is) – do you say ‘no problems God, whatever you want’ or do you bargain with Him by saying, once I’ve paid this and that & spoilt myself a little then I give them something of what’s left?
Such small things but in God’s Kingdom, it doesn’t matter the severity, betrayal is betrayal!
I then read James 2 (and James is my FAVOURITE book in the World) where it was talking about Faith and Deeds. It got me thinking about my faith, do I merely show it by words or are there actions which back it up?
“What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” (James 2:14-17 NIV)
And onto another tangent, this morning in my inbox was this quote:
“God is more concerned about our character than our comfort. His goal is not to pamper us physically but to perfect us spiritually.” Paul Powell
All in all, I love delving into His Word hey?!!
