Psalm 25:1-2 “O Lord, I give my life to you. I trust in you, my God!
Psalm 25:4-5 “Show me the right path, O Lord; point out the road for me to follow. Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in you.
Ah, trust such a small word but with an enormous meaning:
noun
1. reliance on the integrity, strength, ability, surety, etc., of a person or thing; confidence
2. confident expectation of something; hope
3. a person on whom or thing on which one relies: God is my trust
4. the condition of one to whom something has been entrusted
5. the obligation or responsibility imposed on a person in whom confidence or authority is placed: a position of trust
6. charge, custody, or care
verb
1. to have trust or confidence in; rely or depend on
2. to believe
3. to expect confidently; hope
4. to commit or consign with trust or confidence
5. to invest with a trust; entrust with something
So, do I truly trust God? Do I have a confident expectation? Am I relying on the integrity, strength and ability of God? Do I truly give Him the custody or care of my life? How about those close to me? Funnily enough (not that it’s a laughing matter), I totally trust God more than I trust people close to me (which is good in one respect, but then glaringly shows that I’m still not trusting Him to help me put in the time and effort to relationships close to me).
Yes we’ve all been burnt before and I must include myself in that statistic. My bad experience didn’t just last for one situation; it lasted over a couple of years – on and off – but over a few years and to this day, I’m still quite guarded. There are some I can be totally honest with about everything and then there are others who I pretty much only give them superficial information (i.e. non important things that I would share with those who I know casually, you know, basic details of new job etc). Even now I can think of those that I used to share with but now struggle to even speak with them because of my lack of trust.
Hmm, God is a graceful and merciful God (thank goodness!) so I know that this is an area that I am continuously working on. Thank you God for reminding me always that trusting You also requires me to trust in those who You have placed in my life.
