Weekend review

Yes, another weekend has come and gone!

Friday night – we had an urban life dinner at Warwick Thai in Coburg, heaps of fun, I took loads of photos (paparazzi/stalker comes to mind :p ha ha) and just chilled with everyone. We went mainly for Julian who returns home to Columbia on 1 June … we all had a blast! Have to include this photo, it super cracks me up … such a poser this boy!!!

Saturday – ah the usual, netball. It was much nicer weather than last week (i.e. there was no rain!) but I did have to umpire as well as coach so that got me a little stressed but it all worked out ok. Drove Felicity home as she lives in Newman College which is just around the corner from my house so that worked out well. At night I did some cleaning and then headed to Carlton Borders to do some netball work and website stuff for work. It was actually a very productive few hours. Should start looking at doing it more often for my assignments etc!!!

Sunday – an awesome day! I parked my car at church early and then headed back to the city to get my Chai Latte … YUM!!!! Eventually made my way back to church for prayer meet at 2.15 p.m. Our speaker today was Ps Paul Scanlon from
Abundant Life Church in the UK. He was good in both services but I’m glad that I stayed for both. The second one was a little more in depth than the first.

He talked about whether or not we are in a ‘safe’ church – that is, can we leave things everywhere because we can vouch for people? Are we talking about reaching the lost but when they come in, not accepting them for who they are? Do we have a point system for the way we respond to others, e.g. someone who is a petty criminal we are more willing to put time into rather than someone who has committed armed robbery? Extreme examples I know but nonetheless something to think about.

On my reading in
James, I came across this:

Chapter 4, v 8a: “Come close to God, and God will come close to you”, and then in v10: “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up in honor.”

Draw near to Him, how often do we consciously draw near to Him so that He will draw near to us? How often do we just say a quick prayer and expect those amazing moments to happen? I’m not saying that He can’t move in a short amount of time, but He desires more than that. He wants to dwell in His presence so that all we want is more of Him and to do more of what He has called us to do =).
