This morning my devotions came from John 11:38-44 where Lazarus is raised from the tomb.
It is centred around the fact that when we worry, we look at the circumstance and ourselves rather than looking at God and believing in Him.
For example, Jesus was in the middle of the storm, and He comfortably slept while the disciples began to worry and stress; Jesus didn't worry about feeding the 5000, He presented what the boy had and let His Father do the rest and we know the result, they had left overs!
Everyone was stressed and upset when Lazarus died - Jesus wasn't. He went to the tomb and asked them to open it up - Martha was stressed at the potential smell because Lazarus had been dead for a few days, and I love Jesus' response to her:
v40 "Didn't I tell you that you would see God's glory if you believe?"
Then as the stone to the tomb was rolled open:
v41-42 "Father, thank you for hearing me. You always hear me, but I said it out loud for the sake of all these people standing here, so that they will believe you sent me."
So when we worry (although we think we're not), we see circumstance and others see us stressing. When we believe in God no matter the circumstance, we see His glory and His hand at work.
It is so much easier to just look at the circumstance and then go ... this is not good; this then starts the whole worry situation. It takes an actual decisive moment to say 'God I believe and trust in You to guide me through this and know that there is nothing to worry about because You are the Lord of All'.
Putting into practice ... there's the challenge!
